Have you every heard the saying, "In a blink of an eye?"
We'd have to enter something before that statement. For example, "They grow up.... in a blink of an eye" or "It just happened in a blink of an eye."
Well, I've been thinking and wondering about the things that do just happen with a simple blink. They happen so quickly that it almost makes you question, "Why did I blink?"
In my lifetime, all 27 years of it, which some of you may feel is still a short time but it feels like an eternity to me, I've done some blinking and witnessing of how quickly things can change. People change, jobs change, dreams change, and life changes. All with a simple blink.
These past couple years I've witnessed the aftermath of a blink and I've also come to know of situations where other's blinked and before they knew it, 40 something years happened and life just flew by. These stories, these people, these hearts make me want to stop blinking but not for the sake of not wanting things to keep happening, but for the sake of something happening. God doesn't want us to live in fear. He wants us to move forward, grab His hand and continue the road that he paved for us.
Sometimes a blink brings tears of heartache. A baby takes it's last breath in your arms and you just wish you never blinked because that was a second that they left your sight. A second you'll never get back.
Sometimes a blink brings you fear. The weight of not being able to be the same as you were just the second before you closed your eyes has you so scared of what's to come. You miss the old you.
Sometimes a blink brings you doubt. A person that you once trusted just shook your whole world and you're left with the question, "Where did I go wrong before I blinked?" "Why did I blink?"
Sometimes a blink leaves you so full of joy but regret of not enjoying it just a little more savoring every second because your newborn daughter is now entering college and you're missing the sweet smell of her new skin. Where does the time go when you blink?
Although so much can change with a blink of an eye remember that there's still something worth seeing once you open your eyes again. There's a promise just above the horizon for you to see unfold before the eyes that swell with tears, both happy and sad.
That baby that only knew the warmth of your skin and the sound of your sweet voice will soon be in your arms again. Keep blinking.
That fear of not being enough, not being strong enough, not feeling like the same old you, that fear will subside and God will fill it with joy, peace, and love. He's going to carry you through each pain that you feel and remind you that he gave you a second chance for a reason. He needs you. This world needs you. Keep blinking.
That person who left you with self-doubt of whether or not you're worthy of that marriage or that friendship will come around. You don't need to try to work on their heart because God is already doing that. In the meantime, go walk to the mirror, take a deep hard look at the person looking back at you, take a deep breath, and keep blinking. God is living in you. You ARE worthy. You were worthy in that moment that you blinked and it all shattered, and you're still worthy in this moment of heartbreak. Keep blinking.
And finally, to the sweet parents who blinked. I know it feels bittersweet to see your baby go onto their new chapter while you're left wondering how yours flew by so fast, oh please keep blinking. You did an amazing job over the years and guess what it's not done! Although the house stays clean now and the noise level seems way to dull for your liking, and you miss the baby giggles and belly laughs as they kids played onyour living room floor, take each of those memories and write them out so they can lasts a little longer, so that they can reach the tip of your tongue to be breathed in once more as if they're just happening, and know that as you keep blinking through this next chapter you'll be able to fill more of those pages with sweet memories that'll fill your heart to last a lifetime that's full of joy.
Your world may have been shaken with a blink of an eye, but please remember, His promise is there the second you open them up again. Keep blinking.
